Taylor's First Turkey Hunt

Hi my name is Taylor Daly and I am 12 years old and I am going to tell you all about my very first youth turkey hunt! When I was 7, I was with my Dad and his friend Bill Gutshall, Bill was video taping my hunt. When we got into our spot we heard all of these gobblers work themselves up while they were roosting, it was amazing. But they were quite a ways from our spot. When it was broad daylight we have seen that the turkeys have gotten closer and closer. When it was perfect out side the sun was behind us and this gobbler was chasing this hen all around. Well, they stopped and then they went separate ways. The gobbler came right out in front of me, but I had a stick in the way so I was not able to see till he
got to the side of me. My dad heard Bill say hey Jason, and first my dad did not hear Bill but then he said it a little bit louder and my dad looked back. He saw another gobbler standing next to Bill getting ready to spook. Then my dad was all excited because he told me to grab my gun up and put on my shoulder and so I did what I was told to do. Soon enough I saw the turkey right in front of me. I pulled the trigger; I saw the turkey go down. It weighed 23 ½ pounds with a 10 inch beard. The most amazing thing about it I hit it with one little pellet right in the head a little above his left or right eye. My dad was so excited he jumped right off the ground and barreled right over me, but when he got there all of the turkey's tale feathers had fallen out except three. My dad went to grab him and he spurred his left hand it was all bloody and nasty. It was so much fun going out there and seeing what God created. It is not all about whether you don't get anything an your first hunt or seeing anything or you miss. I know that last year I missed the biggest turkey I have ever seen I shot right over the top of his head but I was also sitting on thorns and was very uncomfortable. If you do not see anything for hours don't go off mad, you just work your self up for no reason. If it is the third or second day of the season, you have other chances, but if it the last day of the season, ya I would be mad to but that does not mean that you have to quit hunting your whole life. This is one of my first hunts of many but I would have to say it was my coolest. Thank you for taking your time to read it!
