Hello, my name is Shawn Lundquist. I am 32 years old and live in Oak Grove MO. I would tell you of the first time I went fishing, but to be honest, I can't remember that far back anymore. I do remember my first hunt came at the ripe age of 7. It was a snow goose hunt at Grand Pass.
My brother and I would wait impatiently at home when we were kids for my dad to get back from his latest hunting adventure. He would sit in his favorite easy chair while we sat at his feet waiting for the daily story. Some things never change, whenever one of us goes hunting to this day, it is a given the others will call for "story time".
Duck and goose hunting is my passion. I sleep/eat/breathe it 365 days a year. I build layout boats in my spare time. I practice calling for hours on end. I am constantly tinkering with projects in the garage that will help me trick the wily mallard. I spend hours on the internet pulling up maps and going over them. Not a day goes by that I am not planning/scouting/ or thinking about duck hunting.
I am also an avid turkey hunter. There's nothing like being in the woods in the spring as the dull browns of the woods blossom into a dark green.
My fishing consists mostly of bass. I am forced to occasionally chase crappie, but it is usually against my will. Little brothers are like that, especially when it is him that owns the boat and not me.
I served as a board member for the Missouri Waterfowl Association West Side Chapter. I worked booths across the western side of MO recruiting new members and passing the word around describing the MWA. It is an organization that I believe in and joined in while it was still in its grass roots stage.
I have 2 kids. My son, Patrick, is 13 years old and started his waterfowl career this season. My daughter, Mickayla, is 8 and went hunting this year for the first time. I think it is safe to say, she will be going back again in the future.
Every free chance I get, I am enjoying the outdoors. That's the way my dad is, and the way my grandfather was when he was alive. Some call it a hobby, I call it tradition. |
